Turbine Design

Combining the Darrieus and Savonius vertical axis wind turbines constitutes for an effective, efficient and aesthetically pleasing model, capable of capturing urban and rural winds.

Our Model

The drag force of the overlapping (S-type) Savonius rotors provides an efficient self-start as low as 3 m/s, which is then enhanced by the natural lift force and momentum of the outer Darrieus rotors.

What is a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine?

A Vertical axis Wind Turbine’s (VAWT) rotating blades sit perpendicular to the wind direction. This enables them to capture wind from any direction and can run at lower wind speeds. A Horizontal axis Wind Turbine’s (HAWT) blades are parallel to the wind.
